On October 14, 2010 at 10:30 Mike and I were in the middle of posting freebies and getting deals ready for the next day when all of a sudden we heard what we at first thought were kids, when all of a sudden someone yelled “FIRE” I can’t put into words that feeling, we were so scared. We had time to grab our kitty and leave. We were on the second floor. When we were leaving out the door if you looked to the left all you could see were flames coming up the stair case and to the right it was smoke that you could not see anything. Mike looked to me and said “just cover you mouth and don’t breath” I couldn’t stop shaking it was so scary… we made it out of the building and were not injured. We are so grateful and we were very lucky, if we were in there for another 2-3 minutes we would have had to jump out of the second story window. All 12 families made it out of the building safe.

For right now I have to keep this post short, but Mike and I wanted to post an update. It has been a rough week and I’m so sorry, I’m not the best at expressing my feelings on paper, but in time we will share with you in more detail what happened.

We were just able to get online today and we have been reading your comments, thoughts and prayers and we can’t say thank you enough. It means so much. It brings us to tears.

Hopefully next week, we will be fully up and running posting freebies and deals.

    Someone tossed a cigarette and the bushes in the front of my apartment caught on fire this summer. It was so fast, smoke one minute, open flames the next. Some guy driving past saw the smoke and ran up, got the hose in front turned on and kept it from spreading fast. I live a block away from the fire dept in a small town, so we were super lucky, only the front of the building burned.

    We were really shaken up tho. I can somewhat imagine what you are going through right now and I hope you get settled into a new place soon. You can replace anything, you will always have your memories, it’s your lives that really matter.

I know how devastating it can be. Please, as others have stated, let us know what we can do to help you through this time.

    And I also want you all to know what a great site this is: With your absence the other sites aren’t posting as much, you seem to be the backbone to the ‘freebie’ community.     Oh my! :eeek: I was in tears as I read your post Mike & Michele. I am SOOOOOO very sorry you guys had to go thru such a horrific ordeal! I am so thankful that you & the other residents were all spared any injury. As everyone else has stated, material objects can be replaced, your lives can not. I’m just so relieved that you were able to post here that youns were alright.

    Fires are about as scary as it gets, from nothing to overwhelming in moments. I’m sorry for your fright and losses, but grateful you are all well.     God i feel so bad that this happened to you. Just reading your story made my heart shake. One night when we were all sleeping, and in the middle of the night the pick up truck went on fire.The phone charger was in the truck charging all night and over heated. If the alarm of the truck would not have gone off the car would have exploded i’m guessing. any how i totally paniced because i thought it was going to explode any way. But thank god we all made it out ok and the fire was put out. The kids were really scared and were crying. You don’t get over that fear so fast. It took a while. But all is well now. It will also be for you guys. I wish you lots of luck and i send out many prayers and blessings to you both.

    I am so glad you are ok!! I had some close calls in college with arsonists attacking our neighbors apartment and it was some pretty scary stuff! The main thing is that everyone got out ok! Things can be replaced but you can not be replaced!! You and your family will remain in my prayers!

    I live in an apartment building and that to me scares of what you guys and the other families went through. I knew something was wrong after no posting and finding out you both are safe and no one was seriously hurt is a miracle. you are in my prayers and as the saying goes one day at a time.

    Sorry to hear about the loss of your home. As others have said on the upside you have your life & that in itself is not replaceable.     I feel for you, I’m 27 and when I was 10 yrs old my house burned down 2 days after Christmas (not from Christmas lights!) in the early hours. I remember being so upset when my cat got scared and jumped out of my arms when I tried to save her. I miss her to this day, so you are lucky you got your kitty. Good luck!

    I just happened to come across this today. I also lived on the 2nd floor with my husband. We just got married in September. which apartment number were you two in? We still can not believe that this all happened. We’re still slowly just trying to get our lives back together. We always wonder if everyone in that building is okay. I hope you both are doing okay.

      We were in 202. I still can’t belive this happened either, were still in shock over it. Were slowly trying to build our lives, but it really is hard at times.
