There is a Poppi Beverages Class Action Settlement because a lawsuit was filed alleging that Poppi falsely advertised its prebiotic sodas as providing significant “gut health” benefits.
Here’s a breakdown of the reasons:
- Misleading “Gut Health” Claims: The core of the lawsuit, filed by Kristin Cobbs against VNGR Beverage LLC (Poppi’s parent company), alleged that Poppi’s marketing claims, such as “Be Gut Happy. Be Gut Healthy,” were misleading.
- Insufficient Prebiotic Fiber: The lawsuit argued that each can of Poppi contains only 2 grams of prebiotic fiber (agave inulin), which is an amount too low to provide meaningful gut health benefits. Plaintiffs claimed that consumers would need to drink four or more cans daily to see any effect.
- High Sugar Content Offsets Benefits: The lawsuit also contended that even if a consumer drank enough Poppi to get some prebiotic benefit, the high sugar content in the drinks would likely counteract most, if not all, of those purported benefits.
