Would love to try a sample
fyi, they aren’t choosing everyone that asks. you have to tell them why you think you deserve a sample, and if your answer isn’t good enough, they don’t give you one. I didn’t think that very nice of them to offer a sample and then say that simply asking wasn’t good enough. I don’t need their sample bad enough to beg. Just my opinion though.
A. Perry, they never said anything about having to give a reason you ‘deserved’ a sample. That wasn’t it at all. The actual procedure involved posting on their wall (not in comments) about why you love Creme of Nature (a specific, valid reason, not just “I love Creme of Nature” or “I want a sample” or making something up about the product that isn’t true). They were very clear about the rules of participating from the beginning, and they even added another note later clarifying the guidelines further.
I was chosen, and I didn’t do anything special. I certainly didn’t beg, nor did I tell them why I thought I ‘deserved’ a sample. I just read the rules and followed them. I wrote two or three honest sentences, and it took me less than five minutes. If people aren’t willing to bother reading the guidelines, then they probably don’t want the sample that much to begin with.
While I’m glad that you were “chosen” to get a sample, many people that posted perfectly good requests were denied. I did notice that they updated and explained the details further, but I think that they should have done that from the beginning instead of waiting until so many people had posted and wasted their time. They did make the statement to someone, “you’re almost there, tell us more!”, (which I would consider begging) and also, “tell us why you love Creme of Nature”, which is hard to do if you haven’t even had the opportunity to try it. I have never had to beg for a freebie from a company that is well established and reputable, which says a lot for this particular company. Good customer service goes a long way and apparently I’m not the only one that they offended with their attitude. Now i’m not asking you to agree with me, like I stated above, it’s just my opinion. And this posting doesn’t require a response, so don’t feel like you have to give one. This is just my opinion.
You’re certainly entitled to your opinion and I’m not asking you to agree with me either, just offering my own opinion. I read the rules of the giveaway very shortly after they were first posted, and they were perfectly clear (in my opinion) from the beginning. To my knowledge, the giveaway rules ALWAYS said that you needed to post why you love Creme of Nature. It was a giveaway for existing customers, in order to try the new fragrance of the shampoo. It wasn’t intended to generate new customers. They were explicit about that from the start, in my opinion.
(By the way, I recall seeing a comment from them saying that they would have a free sample offer for new users in the future. Just in case anyone reading this cares.)
It’s their product and they have the right to choose how they distribute free samples of it. Some companies use freebies to recruit new customers; others use them to reward existing customers. Some ask for nothing but your address; others want you to actively participate and put in some kind of effort in exchange for the freebie. There’s nothing wrong with that, in my opinion. It just means they want to encourage customer loyalty and interaction/participation with their brand.
I agree that good customer service goes a long way, but my point is that I haven’t seen them say or do anything that I’d consider poor customer service, rude, offensive, unfair, etc. Based on the instances you mentioned — “you’re almost there, tell us more” (which doesn’t sound at all like asking for begging to me, just asking for a more detailed explanation) and “tell us why you love Creme of Nature” (which was the explicit point of the exercise from the beginning) — I don’t see anything wrong with those either. All I see there is, again, encouraging substantive participation in the giveaway activity.
Obviously, you’re entitled to disagree. And there may have been other instances I’m not aware of. I’m just offering my opinion based on my own experiences and observations. (And yes, I know you said your posting didn’t require a response. I’m offering one to expand upon my earlier comment, as I just re-read it and I don’t think I articulated my points clearly enough. For the record, it wasn’t an attack against you or anyone else. Sorry if it sounded inflammatory or insulting; that wasn’t my intent. I was simply responding to your opinions with my own. You said they were making people tell them why they deserved a sample, and that wasn’t my experience at all. As you said, it’s just my opinion.)
so is this a freebie for everyone or is this from the facebook giveaway?
