Oh YES I did! My son bought dinner so I wouldn’t have to cook. He bought NY strip steaks & brats to do on the grill (hubby did those), HUGE potatoes to bake with ALL the trimmings, and baked beans. And a birthday cake & ice cream for dessert. Those potatoes were a meal all by itself! But it was ALL delicious! I was so miserably full, I couldn’t even eat ANY dessert at all, but they sure did LOL!

And my 2 g-kids made me cards that were so beautiful it brought me to tears. They put so much time & effort into making them & that’s what makes them SO special. Needless to say, I will be putting those away for safe keeping.

So YES, I had a wonderful birthday!

Now that sounds like my kind of Birthday! The meal sounds so delicious! :yum: Your grand kids are such sweet hearts. It is so touching when they make the gifts that makes it really special.
I am so happy that you had a good Birthday! Your family sounds like so much fun 🙂

Did you have nice weather for the BBQ? If I remember last year you guys had a cold and rainy day last year?

    :h5:

    • Lady_CJ says

      April 27, 2010 at 10:39 am

Dang! You have a good memory! I can’t even remember what it was like last year, but I DO remember the storm we got in May tho. WHEW!

The weather was gloomy, but alright to fire up the bar-b-q grill…LOL. We were getting a light misty rain. But hubby had the grill on the front porch so everything stayed nice & dry. And the flavor! OMG! :yum:

        April 27, 2010 at 10:31 pm

LOL I remember last year we were talking in the forum and you guys had some bad weather, but that May storm was brutal… I remember when you told me I flipped on my TV and was watching the radar and was thinking “NO WAY” that was really bad. (Hoping it would pass you guys quick)

I’m so glad that you had a nice day. A nice day for one of the nicest people that I know 🙂

You have me wanting to fire up my BBQ right now -yummy. I tell you nothing like food cooked on the grill it taste’s so delicious. :yum:

I hope your having a good day!

  3. Lady_CJ says

    April 27, 2010 at 10:45 pm

Yes it WAS a brutal storm! I have never seen or ever heard anything like it before last year. The weather service called it a “derecho”. I never heard of that before & HAD to look it up…LOL. i don’t know which is scarier…it or an actual tornado!

Here’s a link for anyone that is curious to know what it is.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derecho

    • Michele says

      April 29, 2010 at 3:31 pm

That is terrible!! WOW I also have never heard of a “Derecho” either until you had said that I had know idea of what that even meant. WOW that is extremely scary!
Do you have a safe place to go at your house? For storms like that.

It had to sound like a freight train coming right through your town. The sound of that creeps me out.

That looks just as scary as a Tornado.

When I was living in Michigan we had a Tornado and I remember it got real calm and green outside…then all of a sudden you could see the funnel cloud come. It lifted and placed are oak tree in our neighbors yard. It was so scary.

The weather latley around the world with the earth quakes, hurricanes and tornadoes seem to be coming up more often. Praying that nothing comes..

 and I hope your having a good day! Today is nice and sunny here, but super windy are power flickered off 😐 I’m like NO this cant happen…there are freebies and deals to post 😉

  4. Lady_CJ says

    April 29, 2010 at 7:12 pm

LOL on the freebies & deals to post!

Yes, we have an outside storm shelter for bad weather. That’s where we were when that storm hit. what was really strange was that day (an hour earlier) we had a big storm that caused us to get out into the shelter. When it had passed & the weather radio said the warning/watch had expired, we could see a blue sky with NORMAL clouds, indicating that the storm was over. So we go back into the house.

Then about a 1/2 an hour later, the weather radio went off again! The time was 11:45am. It stated a tornado WARNING and we were in its path! So we immediately dropped everything & ran back out to the shelter. I had called my sister (who lives right up the road from us) to get back over here NOW! Then my neighbor (nephew’s gf) who was pregnant at the time, dashed over. She lost her umbrella due to the high winds. My sister made it safely, and hubby & a friend of his that was visiting got in the shelter along with us & our son.

We were sitting inside less then 5 minutes when it hit! It was LOUD, the wind was ripping from every direction (which we thought was weird), and the rain was very heavy. We watched as the winds uprooted & toppled trees that were HUGE! It was so scary! I got video of the storm too. We couldn’t actually SEE anything like a tornado, but it sure sounded & felt like one. It lasted about 10-15 minutes all together I’d say.

When we finally veered outside to see the damage it had caused, we were dumb-struck! It absolutely looked like a war zone all around. The wind blew SO hard that it plastered grass clippings & leaves all over the vehicles in the drive-way, on hubby’s pool room & our houses. It looked like they had all been painted green. It was wild! And the trees! OMG! As HUGE as they were, they were knocked over like a bunch of dominoes. There are HUGE holes in the yard from the trees being uprooted.

Then after we got inside the house, we noticed the power was out AND the phone lines. So I had to use my cell to report it to the power company & the phone company. Then I tried to call the schools to check on the kids because they were at school when this storm hit. I was able to get thru to my g-daughters school, but not my g-son’s (cause they were stupid enough not to have a hard line phone)! I was beginning to panic!! We were stuck here because WE couldn’t even get out due to all the trees 7 power lines that were down! I was frantic! Then I got ahold of the kid’s mom who lived in the nearby town (that didn’t suffer any damage) to go to the school to get them & take them to her home till we could come get them. She was able to thankfully.

The kids were out of school for a week from the storms cause they all suffered some damage but all students were safe. Poor Mikey (g-son) was scared stiff & doesn’t trust this type of weather anymore. Who can blame him huh? So NOW when that weather radio goes off, he’s the 1st one to go listen…LOL.

Our power was out for 2 whole weeks here. We were able to buy a generator so we could plug in our fridge & freezer, and to run my nebulizer for my breathing treatments. It was ONE experience I would NOT like to have repeated!

Wow! I didn’t intend on writing a “book”…LOL. Sorry about the length but it gives you a better idea of what we went thru.

      April 30, 2010 at 3:08 pm

OMG!!! I have the chills, that had to be the scariest things to happen. WOW! Thank God that you have a shelter to go in for saftey. I can’t even imagine what you and your family must have felt like…the not knowing of what is happening!
Thank God you and your family were mostly together and that your grand kids were safe at the school. You had to been freaking out so bad I cant even imagine. I am a nervous nelly. I would be so freaked out.

We have had the power out around here for 3 days max to my knowledge, but 2 weeks holy moly that is terrible 🙁 Talk about really roughing it. Its times like that, that really make us appreciate what we have, its a wake up call.
Man and it so weird how after the first storm had passed that you guys had blue skies…and no real indication of another storm brewing…

You probably had know idea the second wave was even coming through….WOW I swear sometimes the weirdest things happen with these types of storms and that is what makes them so darn dangerous also is they come out of no where.
Even with the good technology the weather men/women still have a hard time predicting these kinds of things.
I was telling my neighbor about the “Drencho” and she and here hubby never even heard of it either, I emailed them the wiki.

I so can understand why Mikey is still scared to this day about that. Aww I feel for him. You have such a nice family and I just love it how you all band together. It really is nice.

Thank you for writing and giving me a better understanding of what you went through that day! I am so glad that you guys are all ok! I pray that this does not happen again.

You guys are getting rains this weekend? Ugg I’m here near Chicago – a suburb and it is real windy. At about 11 or so last night we lost are power 🙁
I had about 4 freebies to post plus I wanted to start writing up all of the Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid deals for this weekend so they would be all set to post, but I have to do it today instead…

I swear where I live if a car drives by fast we seem to lose are power LOL LOL….its crazy. I think my electic company is sick of me LOL.

crossing my fingers you guys dont get to much rain and you have a sunny weekend!!

  Thank you again you are the nicest person I know!! (((HUGS))))

It was a couple of days later when we heard that it was a derecho & not a tornado that hit us. We had “heard” of an “inland” or inline hurricane, but didn’t know what they were talking about till that point. NOW we do! It had hurricane force winds that made it so dangerous.

  6. Lady_CJ says

    April 29, 2010 at 7:56 pm

Oh! and the weather was relatively nice here today too, but the wind! WOW it’s been very windy. The local weather channel says 15-30 mph winds with stronger gusts possible. I’ll say it was possible…LOL. But they’re calling for more rain tomorrow to last thru the weekend too. Oh boy!

  7. Michele says

    April 30, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Lady_CJ – Your never going to belive this :eeek: we have a tornado watch right now through tonight!! OH MY!! 😥 I hope you guys are ok.

How bizzare is that  don’t let it storm. :ohno:

I hope your having a good day! I will talk to you soon

  8. Lady_CJ says

    April 30, 2010 at 7:14 pm

Oh I know! We’re in Missouri so we seem to get caught in the middle of it all a lot. We’re under a tornado watch till 10pm here too. The counties around us are till 2am! I really do HATE this type of weather too cause it makes me so nervous, and when I get nervous, my heart rate goes up & makes it hard for me to breathe. I get screwed no matter what!

Yep, gonna rain ALL weekend here. The guys (hubby & son) are already bummin’ cause the local races were canceled for the 2nd week in a row due to the weather.

ANd you’re right, it IS good that we can all band together out here. Our son & g-kids live on our property so they’re right next door & it’s good to have them so close so we can look out for their safety as well.

And thank you for allowing me to post such a LONG comment too. When our power was out for that time, the kids & I played a LOT of family games & had a fun doing it. We still have out kerosene lanterns thankfully & they did a great job of lighting up things at night. Plus LOADS of candles and flashlights that we got from the Red Cross. They were life savers too, providing up with plenty of water, food & cleaning supplies. They are a terrific organization to have around in a time of need, I know that!

Oh! You guys be careful yourselves!!! Keep a watchful ear & eye out for changes in the weather mdf. Be safe!!

  10. Lady_CJ says

    May 1, 2010 at 11:08 am

Well, we DID have a tornado WARNING last night! It was around 9:15pm when the weather radio announced the warning & to seek shelter for those of us in the towns of its path. WE were in its path! Luckily, we had ALL gone out to the shelter for safety BEFORE the rain came, so we were all nice & dry inside.

I called my sister so she & her daughter came over, hubby went & got our neighbor down the road to bring up to the shelter, and the g-kids & son were all safe inside the shelter. Even the dogs came out with us…LOL! AND my sister’s dog, they ain’t NO dummies! They know were it’s safe to go too…LOL.

As we watched the storm come & go, we saw the lights go out in ours & our son’s house, so that told us our power was out. It just got restored a few minutes ago, after being out for 12 hours. But we got by. We had my candles & lanterns & the kids had a flashlight to make them feel safe. Hubby said when he ventured out to see if he could see any of the power company crew, he didn’t see too much damage aside from a few tree limbs down, but we heard it was much worse on the other side of town (we live 14 miles out). Anyway, we are all ok here. I hope all of you were safe & ok too.

      Hi Lady_CJ!
How are you? I’m so sorry it took me a while to respond. It has been so crazy! I was watching the radar and I was thinking about you that night I saw the tornado warning and I told Mike how we were just talking about the “Drencho” he said what a coincidence 🙂 How weird is that 🙂
LOL with the dogs you are no dummies for sure, I’m the same way with my dogs, they are my babies.
Thankfully the weather has been nice latley :fingersx: although where you and I live tomorrow could bring us snow (LOL) the midwest is just so bizzarre as far as the weather is concerned.

I bet yout g-kids love to play outside in the nice weather. I would so love to be your neighbor, I swear you are really good people and you guys sound like so much fun…my kind of family

I miss you and I hope you are doing ok? Alot of freebies latley 🙂

Hope to see you soon and (((BIG HUGS))

  11. Lady_CJ says

    May 4, 2010 at 11:27 pm

Hahaha! I don’t know about us being “fun” :dunno: . I guess that would be a matter of opinion, but we do our fair share of keeping the peace with everyone around us. We only have 5 neighbors out here (2 are my sisters, 1 is a nephew & family, the other 2 are friends, then there’s our son & his kids but I count them with us). We do love a peaceful territory. We each have 5-8 acres so even tho we DO have neighbors, they are far enough away for privacy, but close enough when you need them.
And thank you for saying I (we) are good people! That really means a lot mdf. I think you & Mike are good people too  .

Not too easy for me to get out & about anymore with my health the way it is, but I do what I can like going outside for short periods of time to watch the g-kids, walk around the yard with my cat Cuddles, or just watching the marvels of nature itself. I love to watch the hummingbirds here, they come in droves to eat at my feeders ( I have 5 hanging around the yards). Those little buggers can go thru the sugar I tell ya 😆 .

Yeah you’re right, we’ll NEVER forget what a “derecho” is after last year huh. This weather is some really weird stuff. I never wanna go thru that ever again that’s for sure! But these danged ol’ tornado watches & warnings keep me on edge the whole time they’re active. I can’t sleep at all then :ohno: .

Ya know what you guys ought to add to the Forum? Another link or place where we can all join in on a conversation, chit chat, or just add a comment to a posted conversation. (like we are here), but specifically for chatting with other members. Just a thought. :please: :h5:

    • Michele says

      May 11, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Yes 100% we are going to add a chat area for members. We are working on that now and probably do away with the forum. We will make this one more within the site so that it easy to chit chat and so it will be like a forum, but not a “typical forum’
To be honest with you with this converstation that we have going on over here, I told Mike we really need to do something because I’m sure others would love to chime in on the discussion over here, but I said how will they know to go to the “Glove Nation” sample for a conversation. :teehee:
Thank you for the feedback that means so much coming from you. You have been with us since we first started back in early 2008! I will never forget that…EVER! Mike as well 🙂 I’m looking forward to the “chat room”

I’m so sorry about your health, my mom has the same thing, she is very limited to going out espeially in the humid weather. She has the best time when she is also w/ here grad kids. It makes me so happy that she has something to look forward to.

WOW! You have what I want neighbors, but far enough away where you have the privacy…that would be ideal. I live in the Chicago burbs and we do have close neighbord, but we are 30 min. away from the city so that is really nice. Not to much traffic….YET :eeek:

I have been to your neck of the woods for one of my hockey games and I really like. I tell you the people there are so nice. Where I live it is just so rush, rush, rush people going a million directions with their cell phones, texting while driving, honking if you dont drive through the yellow stop light and just crazy stuff.

I would love to live a peaceful environment to watch beautiful nature and feed the animals that would make my day!

As far as this weather..I had to turn the heat back on. I was freezing this AM. It feels like fall and the winds are picking up again, but you are literally in the path of tornado alley. It really is scary and I am like you I cant sleep at all. I start to get really anxious.

LOL @ your g-kids with the sugar…that is how my neice and nephew are they love there candy and soda. They are so cute at that age.

How old are all of your g-kids again?

Sorry for writing a book and for being all over the place, to be totally honest I don’t write very good. Even when I have to make a deal and freebie post I get kinda scared that it sounds silly. So I have to have Mike say “yeah Michele thats okay you can post that. 🙂

Ok I will talk to you soon and again thank you so much for you feedback you are such a sweet heart!! (((BIG HUGS))

  12. Lady_CJ says

    May 11, 2010 at 7:21 pm

Oh wow! So youns are gonna get rid of the WHOLE forum? All the pics that were posted will go bye-bye too? :ohno: I’ll miss the regular forum too I think… :uh: . But you guys do what ya gotta do so don’t worry about it ok.

They play hockey in MY neck of the woods? First I’ve heard about it…lol. I don’t like sports anyway, so no matter.

Yeah it got pretty chilly over the weekend here too AND we did have the heat on a little while, and had to wear some winter clothing. :eeek: . We slid by those storms yesterday too! Luckily, they went more south of us. They’re calling for more rain tomorrow & Thursday too, along with some cooler temps. At least it’s not HOT yet!

Hey Michele? If I was to “reply” to your email notices, would you get them? I can chit chat with ya like that too…LOL! :h5:

    • Michele says

      May 12, 2010 at 4:12 pm

Hi Lady_CJ!! How are you today? I did get your email. Yesterday (well last night with that free razor) we had 564 emails to fo through :eeek: I would love to chat with you via email. That would be great.
Actually here is what we are thinking. We are thinking about buying a really nice forum, keep the pictures and all of the stuff that is already over there. We can’t get rid of that picture when you donated to the locks of love. WOW! That just was amazing and wow you have some beautiful hair. You are just so kind and genuine

The thing that is tough is that Mike and I are the only ones here. So we have to really monitor the spam and with the forum (current one) we have to moderate that when someone wants to sign up we have to verify that….otherwise these spammers put porn in there and thats really bad. In this website alone we have a spam blocker that blocks about over 5000 spam comments a day. It just nuts…:uh: On Mothers day they did so many it actually pulled the site down for a bit, 🙁

We had to contact our hosting company and had to take some very big measures on the phone I was so stressed that day….:?

We also will have to build up the forum by ourselves…like we did this website, it takes some time because you try to post all the freebies and deals…well you know how that goes. It gets crazy.
But the new forum will be way better. I can’t wait for that!

I’m glad that you got by those storms…we basically did too, its just so cold. I’m wearing a winter coat LOL :teehee: :eeek:

Ok I will reply my next message through the email. I love chatting with you! It makes my day  You are the best   I hope that your having a great day! :h5:
